RoHS — Restriction of Hazardous Substances
What is RoHS?
The Restriction of Hazardous Substances (RoHS) directive limits the use of certain hazardous substances in electrical and electronic equipment placed on the market in the European Union. The current framework is Directive 2011/65/EU, as amended by EU 2015/863, which added four phthalates to the restricted list (sometimes referred to as RoHS 3 or RoHS 10).
Restricted substances include lead, mercury, cadmium, hexavalent chromium, polybrominated biphenyls (PBB), polybrominated diphenyl ethers (PBDE), and the phthalates DEHP, BBP, DBP and DIBP, subject to maximum concentration limits by weight in homogeneous materials.
RoHS status on our website
Where available from manufacturers and distributors, we show RoHS-related fields on each product under Specifications → Legislation and Environmental. Values such as RoHS Compliant, RoHS Phthalates Compliant and RoHS Status are supplied by our supply chain partners and are provided for informational purposes only.
| Status shown | Meaning |
|---|---|
| RoHS Compliant | The product does not contain any of the restricted substances in concentrations above the maximum concentration values set out in the RoHS directive. |
| RoHS Compliant by Exemption | The product qualifies for one of the specific exemptions set out in Annex III to the 2011/65/EU RoHS directive (as amended by EU 2015/863). |
| Not RoHS Compliant | The product contains one or more restricted substances in concentrations above the maximum concentration values. |
| Not Applicable | The product is outside the scope of the RoHS directive. |
| To Be Advised | We do not yet have sufficient information from the manufacturer or supplier to confirm RoHS status. |
Supplier wording may vary slightly (for example "Yes" / "No" for compliant flags, or abbreviated status text). Use the definitions above as a guide and confirm requirements for your application before ordering.
REACH and SVHC
REACH (Registration, Evaluation, Authorisation and Restriction of Chemicals) is separate from RoHS but often appears alongside it on product data. Where we display SVHC (Substance of Very High Concern), this indicates whether the product or its packaging is reported to contain a substance on the ECHA candidate list above applicable thresholds.
As with RoHS fields, SVHC information is based on supplier data and may change when lists or formulations are updated. It is your responsibility to satisfy any REACH obligations that apply to your use of the product.
